Printable Dinosaur Mazes and Animal Mazes

Mazes shaped like a T-rex, a stegosaurus or eleven other animals. Pick one, choose a level and print.

Printable dinosaur mazes are mazes drawn inside a dinosaur outline, and this tool makes them on the spot: a T-rex, a long-neck dinosaur or a stegosaurus, plus eleven other animals from a cat to a whale. The page opens on a T-rex maze at Easy difficulty, and every maze is new. It runs in your web browser, is free, and needs no sign-up or installation. Each maze is made on your own device, and nothing is uploaded. You can print one maze or a full set, add answer pages, or save the result as a PDF, SVG or PNG for a classroom worksheet, a party activity or a poster.

How to use the Animal Maze Generator

  1. Pick an animal shape. The dinosaur (T-rex) is selected first. Long-neck dinosaur and stegosaurus are also available. Holiday and basic shapes are under More shapes on the Design tab.
  2. Set the difficulty: Very easy, Easy, Medium, Hard, Very hard or Expert.
  3. Turn on Kid-friendly (thicker walls, wider paths), under More options on the Design tab, if a young child will trace the route with a crayon.
  4. Look at the preview. To check your work, click Show solution, which draws the route from Start to Finish in red.
  5. Click New maze if you want a different maze with the same settings.
  6. On the Print tab, set Mazes per page, Number of pages, Paper size (US Letter or A4) and Add answer pages.
  7. Choose the title, numbering and Start and Finish label options. For a worksheet, set Page layout to Worksheet, which adds a Name and date line.
  8. Click Print / Save as PDF. In the print dialog, choose Save as PDF as the destination if you want a file.

Use Download SVG or Download PNG to save exactly what the preview shows. SVG stays sharp at any size, which suits a worksheet editor or a large poster. Copy link shares the exact maze or set with someone else.

Which animals are in an animal maze worksheet?

The tool offers fourteen animal shapes: dinosaur (T-rex), long-neck dinosaur, stegosaurus, cat, dog, fish, bird, butterfly, elephant, turtle, owl, whale, horse and snail. The outlines are drawn for this site. The maze walls are fitted inside the outline, so the animal’s shape is the boundary of the puzzle. Holiday and basic shapes are kept separately under More shapes.

Are dinosaur mazes easy enough for preschool?

For most preschoolers, the Very easy or Easy setting with Kid-friendly turned on is the right choice. Difficulty sets how many cells make up the picture: 16 across for Very easy, 24 for Easy, 32 for Medium, 44 for Hard, 56 for Very hard and 70 for Expert. On the dinosaur, the average route (measured over 20 mazes) is about 37 cells on Very easy and about 75 on Easy. On Hard it is about 240, which is much harder for a child who is still learning to follow a path. Kid-friendly uses about 20 % fewer cells for the same difficulty, so the paths are wider and the walls thicker.

How does the tool find the route through a maze?

The tool computes the shortest route from Start to Finish itself, so every maze has a known solution. For shape mazes, Start and Finish are placed on the outline at the two points that are farthest apart along the maze’s paths. This means the route usually crosses most of the animal, rather than running along one edge. Show solution draws that route in red, which is useful for checking a maze before you print it or for an answer key.

Why does the outline look stepped?

The maze is made of square cells, so the animal’s outline follows the edges of those cells. More cells give a smoother outline and a longer route: raise the difficulty, or set Detail (cells across) anywhere from 12 to 80 on the Design tab. Very easy keeps the picture chunky, which is easier for small hands.

Frequently asked questions

Is the printable dinosaur maze generator free?

Yes. The tool runs in your web browser and is free to use. You do not need to sign up or install anything.

Can I print the answers?

Yes. Set Add answer pages on the Print tab. The answer pages come after the maze pages and show the solution in red, so you can print them for a teacher or parent.

Does it work on a phone or tablet?

The tool runs in the web browser, so it opens on any device that has one and needs nothing installed. The Print / Save as PDF button opens that device’s own print dialog, so the print options you see depend on the device and browser you use.

Can I make the same maze again?

Yes. Each maze is built from a seed, and the same seed and settings always produce the same maze. Use Copy link to keep the exact maze or set, and a reprint will be identical. New maze creates a different maze with the same settings.

Can I put different animals on one page?

All mazes in one printed set use the shape you picked, each with its own maze. For a mixed set, print each animal on its own, or download each maze as an SVG or PNG and arrange them in a document.
