Car Maze Game

Drive the red car along the roads to the checkered flag. Use the arrow keys, the buttons, a swipe or drag the car.

The car maze is a free online maze game where you drive a small red car from the start in the top-left corner to a checkered finish flag. It runs in your browser, so there is no sign-up and no download, and nothing you do is uploaded. The maze is drawn from above as grey roads with white dashes on green grass, which makes it a road maze for kids and adults alike. You can play 28 levels that grow from 6 x 6 to 60 x 60 cells, build your own square or circle maze in Free play, or print a maze to solve on paper. Look at the route ahead before you start, and you will spend less time backtracking.

How to use the Car Maze

  1. Open the page and choose Levels to play the 28 built-in levels, or Free play to set your own maze.
  2. Find the red car at the start in the top-left corner and the checkered flag at the finish.
  3. Press the arrow keys or WASD to drive. Hold the key to keep driving. The car turns to face the way it is moving.
  4. On a touch screen, swipe on the board, or tap the direction buttons below the board.
  5. You can also press near the car and drag it along the road. It follows the road and never drives over the grass.
  6. Keep going until the car reaches the checkered finish flag, then press Next level for a bigger maze.

The panel next to the board has Fog (dark maze), Show trail, Show solution, Restart, New maze and Copy link to this maze. Show trail leaves a dotted yellow track where the car has been, and Show solution draws the route to the flag as a blue dashed line. Use Restart to start the same maze again, or New maze to get a fresh one. Print this maze prints the maze you are playing now, with its answer on a second page.

How do you play the car maze game?

Drive the red car from the top-left start to the checkered flag, staying on the grey roads. The car cannot cross the grass, so every turn has to follow a road.

Many roads in a maze end in a dead end. The way out is the path that keeps going toward the flag. When a road stops, drive back to the last junction and try a different branch. Looking ahead along the roads before you move saves backtracking.

Can kids play it on a tablet or phone?

Yes. The swipe on the board, the on-screen direction buttons and dragging the car all work by touch, so kids can play without a keyboard. The arrow keys and WASD are for computers with a keyboard. The early levels are small, starting at 6 x 6 and 8 x 8 cells, so a young player can finish a level quickly and then try the next one. Driving a car is often more fun than moving a plain dot, and working out a route through the maze gives children practice in planning ahead.

Can I print a car maze?

Yes. Click Print this maze to print the maze you are playing now. Page 1 shows the title Car Maze, a Name and Date line, and the instruction “Drive the car along the road from Start to the Finish flag.” Page 2 shows the answer. Choose US Letter or A4 as the paper size. The printed version is a normal black-line maze rather than the road picture, so it uses little ink and works well as a worksheet.

Does it save my progress?

Yes, in your browser. The current level and your best times are saved there, separately from the site’s other maze game. A run where Show solution was used is not saved as a best, so the best times only reflect solo drives.

Frequently asked questions

What is a circle maze?

A circle maze uses round roads. Left and right drive the car around the ring, up drives it outward, and down drives it inward. Choose it under Free play by setting Maze shape to Circle maze, then pick a size from Tiny to Giant, which is 4 to 30 rings.

Why does the board follow the car on big mazes?

On big mazes the board follows the car instead of shrinking the roads until they are too small to see. This keeps the car and the road ahead easy to read on screen.

What does Fog (dark maze) do?

Fog shows only the road around the car, like driving at night with headlights. You can’t see the whole route ahead, so you have to plan as you go.

When does the timer start?

The timer starts on your first move, not when the page loads. At the finish, the game shows “You drove to the finish in” with your time, along with your moves and best time.

Is the car maze game free?

Yes. It is free, needs no sign-up and no download, and nothing is uploaded.

Can a friend drive the same maze?

Yes. Copy link to this maze gives a link that opens the same maze, so two players can race it and compare times.
