Free printable mazes and maze generator

Christmas Maze Printables

Mazes shaped like a Christmas tree, a star, a snowman and more. Pick a shape and a level, then print.

A Christmas maze is a maze drawn inside a Christmas picture, and this free tool makes printable Christmas mazes in your web browser. There is no sign-up and nothing to install, and the mazes are made on your device, so nothing is uploaded.

Each maze is drawn inside a Christmas picture, such as a tree, star, snowman or candy cane. The page opens on a Christmas tree maze at Easy difficulty, one maze per page. You can change the shape, the difficulty and the print settings, then print or save the result as a PDF. The same settings always give the same maze, so you can reprint a page later and get an identical copy.

How to use this Christmas maze tool

  1. Choose a shape. The Christmas tree is selected when the page opens. Use the shape buttons beside the preview, or open ‘More shapes’ on the Design tab for other options.
  2. Choose a difficulty from Very easy, Easy, Medium, Hard, Very hard or Expert.
  3. For young children, turn on ‘Kid-friendly (thicker walls, wider paths)’ under More options on the Design tab.
  4. Check the preview. Click ‘Show solution’ to see the route from Start to Finish drawn in red.
  5. On the Print tab, set ‘Mazes per page’, ‘Number of pages’, ‘Paper size’ and ‘Page layout’. Tick ‘Add answer pages’ if you want a key. You can also set the title, numbering and Start and Finish labels, or pick the Worksheet layout, which adds a name and date line and the instruction ‘Find the way from Start to Finish.’
  6. Click ‘Print / Save as PDF’. In the print dialog, choose ‘Save as PDF’ as the destination if you want a file.

To get a different maze with the same settings, click ‘New maze’; each click gives a new maze inside the same picture. To share the exact maze or set, use ‘Copy link’. ‘Download SVG’ and ‘Download PNG’ save the preview as an image.

Which Christmas shapes are there?

There are seven Christmas shapes: Christmas tree, star, snowman, bell, gift, candy cane and stocking. Each maze is cut to the outline of its shape, so the picture frames the puzzle.

The Start and Finish are placed on the outline at the two points that are farthest apart along the maze’s paths. From Medium up there is exactly one route between them; Very easy and Easy open a few extra passages, and the answer page shows the shortest route. Choosing a shape that matches your party or lesson theme helps the sheet look like part of the same set.

Are there easy Christmas mazes for preschoolers?

Yes. Very easy is the simplest level, with 16 cells across the picture. Easy is the next step up at 24 cells. A Christmas tree at Very easy has a route of about 53 cells, and at Easy about 116 cells, based on the site’s generator averaged over 20 mazes.

For the youngest children, turn on Kid-friendly. It uses about 20 % fewer cells for the same difficulty and gives thicker walls and wider paths, so a child can trace the route with a crayon. More cells mean a longer route, more dead ends and a smoother outline, so each step up in difficulty adds real searching.

Can I print a different Christmas maze for every child?

Yes. Every maze in a printed set gets its own seed, made from the set’s seed, so no two mazes on the sheets are the same. For example, 4 mazes per page and 5 pages give 20 different Christmas tree mazes, numbered “Maze 1” to “Maze 20”, with answer pages after them that use the same numbers. You can also switch the shape between print runs, say snowmen for one group and stars for another. The seed printed in the page footer lets you make the same set again next year.

Frequently asked questions

Is it free?

Yes. The tool runs in your web browser and costs nothing to use. There is no sign-up and nothing to install, and the mazes are made on your device without being uploaded.

Can I print the answers?

Yes. Turn on ‘Add answer pages’ on the Print tab. The answer pages come after the maze pages and show the solution drawn in red.

Does it work on a phone or tablet?

Yes. The tool runs in the phone or tablet browser and the layout fits small screens. Printing uses your device’s own print dialog; ‘Download PNG’ or ‘Download SVG’ saves the maze as a file instead.

Can I make hard Christmas mazes for adults?

Yes. Hard uses 44 cells across the picture, and Very hard and Expert go further, at 56 and 70 cells. A Christmas tree at Hard has a route of about 403 cells with about 123 dead ends, based on the site’s generator averaged over 20 mazes. Expect a long search, and use Mazes per page set to 1 for the most room to work.

What are some ideas for using Christmas mazes?

You can hand out mazes at a class party as a quiet activity, or put a different maze on each day of an advent calendar. Smaller mazes can be used as place cards, and a small maze printed on card can go inside a Christmas card. Use Mazes per page and Paper size to fit the format you need.

Can I reprint the same maze?

Yes. Each maze is built from a seed, and the same seed and settings always give the same maze. Use ‘Copy link’ to share the exact maze or set, and a reprint will match the original.
