Easy Maze Printables for Kids
Short, simple mazes with wide paths for young children. Print a set with answers or save a PDF.
An easy maze is a short maze with wide paths, few dead ends and more than one way to the finish, so a young child can follow it from Start to Finish. This free maze maker runs in your web browser, with no sign-up and nothing to install. Mazes are made on your device and nothing is uploaded.
Choose Very easy (6 x 6 cells), Easy (10 x 10) or Medium (18 x 18). With the kid-friendly option on, as it is when the page opens, each level uses about 20 % fewer cells (5 x 5, 8 x 8 and 14 x 14), so the paths print wider. A Very easy maze is a good small maze for a beginner or preschooler. You can print one maze or a full set of printable easy mazes, with answer pages if you want them. Every maze has a route from Start to Finish, so you can check the path when a child is stuck.
How to use the Easy Maze Generator
- Open the page. It starts on Easy, with 2 mazes per page and the kid-friendly option turned on.
- Pick a size: Very easy, Easy or Medium. For a preschooler, choose Very easy.
- Keep “Kid-friendly (thicker walls, wider paths)” on (under More options on the Design tab) so a child can draw the route with a crayon.
- Look at the maze. Click “New maze” to get a different maze with the same settings.
- Click “Show solution” to draw the shortest route in red. Use it to check your work after the child has tried.
- On the Print tab, set “Mazes per page”, “Number of pages” and “Paper size” (US Letter or A4).
- Tick “Add answer pages” if you want the solutions printed after the maze pages.
- Choose “Page layout”: Plain, or Worksheet to add a “Name and date line” and the instruction “Find the way from Start to Finish.”
- Check the preview of page 1 (or the answer page). Then click “Print / Save as PDF”. In the browser print dialog, choose “Save as PDF” as the destination to get a PDF file.
You can also click “Download SVG”, which stays sharp at any size, or “Download PNG” (2000 px on the long side, white background). Click “Copy link” to share the exact maze or set.
What makes a maze easy?
A maze is easy when a child can reach the finish without many wrong turns. The main factors are the length of the route, the number of dead ends and how wide the paths are. A dead end is a path that stops without reaching the Finish, so each one costs a child a retrace.
On the site’s generator, at the standard sizes, a Very easy maze has a shortest route of about 14 cells and about 3 dead ends. An Easy maze has about 37 cells and 10 dead ends, and a Medium maze has about 100 cells and 35 dead ends. Very easy and Easy mazes also have some extra openings, so there is more than one way to the finish. That keeps young children from getting stuck on a single wrong path. In the tool’s terms, Very easy uses 30 % extra routes and Easy 15 %, while Medium has none, so Medium is the first level with exactly one way through.
What maze is right for a preschooler or kindergartner?
Start a preschooler or kindergartner with a Very easy maze, keeping the kid-friendly option on. Move to Easy once they can finish a Very easy maze without help. Medium suits children who already trace easy mazes steadily. For pencil work, the Worksheet layout with 1 maze per page leaves the most room.
To teach a child to solve a maze, follow these steps:
- Trace the path with a finger first, starting at the Start arrow.
- Then trace it again with a crayon.
- When a path ends, go back to the last turn and try another way.
Small arrows outside the maze mark the way in and the way out, and the “Start and Finish labels” option adds the words next to them. Use “Show solution” only after the child has tried, so they learn to look for the route themselves.
